Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) works with the city of New York to provide a destination for all at Randall’s Island Park. The Alliance helps raise over half of the park’s annual budget, and they do essential work to maintain the beauty and functionality of the park itself.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many, RIPA is still working hard to keep Randall’s Island Park open, so those who visit have a safe place to go to enjoy fresh air and sunshine. Continue reading to learn more about the pivotal work that RIPA is doing to care for the park, and what this organization is all about.

Park Visitor? You Have RIPA to Thank

If you have ever visited Randall’s Island Park, there’s no question that you have RIPA to thank for the opportunity. With over four million visitors spending time at the Island each year, it is a bustling place. Many visitors are children and families who stop by to partake in the year-round public programming—whether it’s a festival, family-friendly hike, an outdoor class, or a movie night.

The park has also become a top spot for sports and recreation. After all, Icahn Stadium includes a top-notch track & field facility, and there are over 60 athletic fields to use, too. Want to hit the tennis ball around? Sportime Tennis Center features 20 state-of-the-art courts.

The Park Is Open

Randall’s Island Park Alliance has closely monitored COVID-19 and its impact. As there are over 380 acres of parkland, the Island is still open for everyone to enjoy. It’s important to practice social distancing and avoid any unnecessary social interactions. Still, there are several ways to explore the park, especially if you’re looking to get creative like you never have before.

There are also ways to stay safe and enjoy the park from home, too. The Virtual Park Experiences on the Randall’s Island Park Alliance website provide interactive activities to help you explore the park, including the Urban Farm. Best of all, you don’t even have to leave home to do this exploring.

Over nine miles of waterfront pathways and all passive recreational activities remain available, and the Sportime Tennis Center and Scylla Playground remain open. Make your next visit to Randall’s Island a safe one, and enjoy your time spent with family and friends.
