As the first-ever Lexus with a twin-turbocharged engine, the Lexus LS 500 certainly offers a powerful driving experience. Throw in a luxurious interior, and you’ve got a car worthy of attention in Larchmont, New Rochelle, and Yonkers.
While piloting the LS 500, you may notice different dashboard symbols turn on while driving. Of course, there are the basic ones like high beams and turn signals. But we’ve put together this guide to discuss some of the most important dashboard symbols you may see while driving. Continue reading to learn more about these dashboard lights and what to do if they turn on. Schedule a service appointment today.
Tire Pressure Light
When tire pressure is accurate, it ensures the car is able to receive the best possible fuel economy. If pressure in at least one of the tires is low, this light will turn on. Once per month, check the pressure levels in all four tires.
You can use your owner’s manual to see what the proper tire pressure should be. You may also obtain this information inside the driver’s side door jamb. If the tire pressure light is blinking, that means there’s an issue with the monitoring system itself.
Check Engine Light
Shaped like an engine, if this light turns on, it’s time to take notice. The check engine light may be signifying a possible engine concern, but it could also be something minor, like an emissions-related issue or loose gas cap.
If the light is flashing, bring your car to our service center as soon as possible. If the light is solid and remains on the next few times you turn the car on, it’s also a good idea to schedule a service appointment for your Lexus LS 500.
Coolant Light
This is also known as the temperature warning light, and will turn on when the engine temperature is running hot. The engine coolant levels should receive a look as soon as possible. The symbol itself looks like a thermometer, so when you see this light on, pay attention to what it’s saying.
After turning the car off and letting it cool down for several minutes, check to see if the coolant levels are where they should be. Coolant can be added if necessary. If the light stays on, there might be a leak.
ABS Light
The anti-lock braking system is what prevents the car from slipping, by preventing the wheels from locking up. If this light has turned on, the Lexus LS 500 isn’t being properly guarded by this extra layer of safety, so it’s best to visit a service center.
The car is still safe to drive. But, to give yourself some extra space, be sure to brake earlier than you usually would.
